Apolonio was born on April 11, 1941, in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico to Felix and Hortencia "Orosia" Romero. He entered rest December 18, 2023, and is preceded in death by his parents Felix and Orosia, Brothers; Valente Romero, Francisco "Pancho" Romero, Sisters; Ofelia Romero-Valenzuela, and Lucina Romero-Ibarra; Son Pedro "Pete" Romero and Grandson Angelo Jimmy Reyes. He is survived by his brother Felix Romero, and sisters Mary Mercado, Carmen Valenzuela and Berta Castro; children, Apolonio Romero, Monica Romero, Sabrina Romero-Robles, numerous loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as his extended family; The Vargas family.
Polo migrated to California from his hometown of Mexicali, Baja California in the 1950's and began working various agricultural jobs. He ended his work in agriculture while picking and loading potatoes in the late 1970's, at which point he entered the janitorial field in San Diego, California. In the 1980's, Polo moved back to Bakersfield, California and began his career at Mercy Hospital, beginning in the janitorial field for two to three years. He then proceeded to learn the Certified Nursing Attendant (CNA) field by asking questions and watching nursing staff perform their duties while on the hospital floor. He was then promoted to the CNA team and spent over 10 years as a Certified Nursing Attendant. Polo received an award from the Mercy Hospital Surgical Team for "Most Caring Nurse" during his first ten years, before being promoted to the Surgical Nursing Team as a Surgical Technician and remained in that field for the duration of his Medical Career, retiring in 2013.
Polo enjoyed spending his time with family, camping, fishing, loved dancing, listening to music, and can't forget his love and passion for his cars and pick-up trucks, as many family will know and remember. Of course, we can't leave out his adoration to Oakland, Los Angeles and Las Vegas Raiders. For all who were ever in his presence, the amount of loved he poured into people made it very pleasant to be around him. His family will never forget his favorite goodbye, saying, "Be good so everyone will love you". He will be deeply missed by all who knew and were around him.
A visitation for Apolonio will be held Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Hillcrest, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306.
