Couldn't have asked for a better friend. You were with me and my family through good times and bad. You may be gone but there won't be a day that goes by that I won't smile when I think of you. You will always be in my heart. I'm a better person because of you. Proud to call you partner. Happy trails to you and keep Heavens door cracked open a bit for when we meet again. It was heartwarming and supportive to see the many people from the diverse circles of connections my Dad formed throughout his life who showed up, contacted us, sent notices,  flowers, and donations.

Our family felt great support and love. It proved to me that although he had been forced to be less engaged during the recent years that the memories of him have continued to be strong. 

Everyone I spoke with had an interesting story and I can say he would have loved hearing each of them.

Thank you to everyone who responded when anyone contacted them about some detail about this funeral process. Each of you responded with enthusiasm and willingness to do something for him.

When I pulled in the driveway and saw the 1960 Plymouth SCPD patrol car my tears erupted. What a tribute from the SCPD Historical Society. It represented the effort and dedication to history my Dad had while showing the joy that history can represent.

The train picture my Dad loved and wasn’t going to buy, because he didn’t know how to get it home from Nevada.. We had left the museum and he kept talking about the picture, I convinced him to buy it and I would figure out how to get it home.. It hung in his office for over 30 years.. glad you bought it!! 

I always felt seen and heard with Grandpa. He always accepted me for who I am. Once we argued about politics for almost an hour, and at the end of it he paused and said “Well, I don’t agree with you, but I respect your opinion.” Another favorite memory was when I was 15, I had just gotten my lip pierced. It was Thanksgiving and everyone had something negative to say. He was the only one who said anything nice. Grandpa looked at me and said “Sam, I think the lip ring really suits you.” He was always so excited to see any new tattoo I got. And he was especially excited whenever I’d bring him homemade soup. The world is a dimmer place without him in it.

Tom always had a smile and a funny story for anyone who would listen!

I can’t begin to say how much my dad meant to me. He will be with me always. 
I’ve had wonderful friends ask me about where to donate in his memory instead of sending flowers. I of course first thought of all the many illnesses he had that he bravely dealt with. Although he would say it was so much harder on my mom and family. But then I thought, why not donate in his memory for the things that brought him joy throughout his life. There are many things he loved, but here are two that were near and dear to his heart if anyone is so inclined to donate. Thank you to everyone who loved, liked or supported my dad and my family. We thank you all.

A man full of love, skills, knowledge, and leadership.

My condolences to Tom's family.  I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Tom at the SCPD.

He was truly one of a kind.  Smart, loyal, hard working and a credit to the department.

The Police Museum would not be what it is without Tom's foresight and hard work.

God bless him.

Uncle Tom was an amazing man, with a long history of service to community and family.  Such a kind and funny man, who will be missed by all.  Sending prayers for comfort to Aunt Rosemarie and my cousins-Marie, Mike, Laura, Susie and Tom.

My deepest condolences to the Smith family!  Mr. Smith was warm and kind.  The world is a dimmer place without the the gleam of his smile.

Tom was a one-of-a-kind person!   He was the kindest, most understanding and patient person I have ever known.  He was my brother-in-law but I felt he was more like a father to me.  RIP Tom.  You will be sorely missed.
