5 years ago today ...
I lost my very best friend.
Bob and I enjoyed many adventures together growing up in the neighborhood.
I miss him.
But I will always cherish the wonderful memories from a long time ago and smile.

Dear Annette, Dana and Mark,

I am so very sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Although I didn't spend as much time with him as I did with Grandma Gertie, Uncle Charlie and Richard - the times I did I was always struck by his quiet kindness and gentle disposition. He was a true rock through all their losses and I'm grateful for the time we got to spend with him during those hard times, especially after Gertie's passing when my mom and I enjoyed a lovely dinner out at the Chinese buffet and they got to reminisce about all the "Flushing Days." 

I know his loss will be felt deeply by you all but he left behind a legacy of love for his family that will sustain you.

Dearest Annette and family,
My wife and I are truly sorry for your loss. Unfortunately I  only met Bob once when we visited you guys and he was a very genuine man. He took time to show me the boating history he had and all the gear. Very sorry I wasn’t able to accompany him on a fishing trip he invited us on. Even though it was only a day I really enjoyed it and you both made us feel very welcome in your home. Thank you and our prayers are with you and GOD bless you.

It is with great sadness that our long time and one of our dearest friendsBob Wanderer passed away. We shared many great times with Bob and Annette from great Caribbean sailing cruises to trips to California and St Johns only to mention a few. We saw our kids grow up, get married and enjoyed sharing the births of grandchildren. We share in the grief with his family but Bob will live on in our hearts with all our wonderful times and memories. Rest In Peace Dear Bob. We love you. Annette, Dana and Mark we are always here for you. With all of our Iove always!

We are so terribly saddened to know of Bob's passing. We are very sorry we are not able to be there physically, but know that we are there in heart. This memorial tribute of your lives together brought tears to our eyes, showing testament to the Special Man, Husband & Father he is & will always be. Of course our relationship began with Paul, JoAnn & The Kids, however, through the years it developed into the feeling of Family. Again, we're sorry we can't be there.

It is really difficult to say Goodbye to someone I have known for over 40 years. Bob and I were "childhood" (in our 20's) friends growing up in the neighborhood. Seeing the words HE PASSED AWAY in an email were shocking, totally unexpected and made me feel numb with disbelief. He was a remarkable man and will be sorely missed. Because we are all so deeply saddened, I would like to change the above words to GONE FISHING instead!!!

My personal note:     
ANNETTE: Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to contact me concerning Bob's passing. Your thoughtfulness was much appreciated.    
DANA: Soooooo glad your Dad lived long enough to walk his daughter down the aisle and experience the happiness of having a grandson.    
MARK: Your father was extremely proud of his son after being sworn in as a harbor pilot. And of course most important, you were his #1 fishing buddy. 
LOLA & LOUIE:  You little guys kept him on his toes ... a second set of children!

Sharing a memory:
Long before Bob and Annette got married, we went to a Carvel store on one of our dates. He wanted to buy me a tremendous Banana Barge. I said it was way too big to eat ... had to watch my weight? He insisted and guess what, I ate the WHOLE thing ... down to the last nut!!! 

And in conclusion: 
As we begin to grieve for our lost loved ones, we must remember that not only did they die but they also LIVED! And Robert Wanderer lived his life to the fullest.

My deepest condolences. I worked with Bob and have not seen or spoken with him for what is probably some 15 years but upon hearing of his passing, I was so deeply saddened. Such a kind, gentle, funny man. I am blessed for have knowing him and for my memories of him. May God rest his soul.

So deeply sad when a really, truly great person dies. Cousin Bobby likely already has his poles baited and is heading out with the sun. Condolences to Annette, Dana and Mark from cousin Deb.

Dear Annette, Dana, and Mark,
We were shocked to hear about Bob and send our sincerest condolences. He was a bright, witty and kind man and loved you all. I remember him as a young boy following Uncle Howie around, fishing and playing with Howie's collie, Princie. As a teen, I remember him driving us to Long Island really fast and how he'd have the red lights timed to go from our house to Aunt Gertie's! He was a devoted son, especially in Gertie's last years. May he rest in peace, reunited with the family he mourned and our Lord.

Dear Annette, Dana and Mark,
I am shocked and very saddened to learn of Bob’s passing. He and Richard were and always will be my brothers from childhood. I have so many wonderful and fun memories of Bob from our childhood and high school years, too numerous to mention. He was always so dependable and sensible, but not above joining in our fun and games. One of my best memories is about music - we loved it and Bob had a small portable record player - it must have run on batteries - he’d bring downstairs in the summer and we’d all sit behind the apartment building on 165th Street and listen to our 45s. When I last saw him after Gertie’s passing, we still shared a little chat about music and what we were listening to - Bob mentioned Brandi Carlisle. Last night I had a ticket to see some folk music. When I got there, and looked around at the posters on the wall, one near me was for Brandi, so I said a little prayer for Bob, and hoped he was resting in peace.
Farewell to my ‘big brother’. I will miss you. My deepest condolences on the loss of your beloved husband and father.
