Mary Ann Henderson, 85, Germantown TN, (originally Lindenhurst, NY) joined the Lord on May 26 due to Alzheimer’s disease. Her family thanks the Gardens of Germantown and Crossroads Hospice for their loving care.
Born on July 13, 1927 to Anna and Frank Provaznik in St. Louis, MO, MaryAnn graduated from St. Louis City Hospital School of Nursing, met and married Robert A. Henderson, a US Naval Lt. Commander in San Francisco and settled in Lindenhurst.
While raising her children and running the household, she worked as a RN at Good Samaritan Hospital, then as a public health nurse. She returned to college, receiving her BS from SUNY Stonybrook and a Master’s degree in nursing from Adelphi. She served on many nursing boards and was very active in the Lindenhurst VFW Women’s Auxiliary. Ever frugal, her passion for garage sales, coupons, and always finding a bargain will be fondly remembered. Always generous with her time, she was the neighborhood nurse and compassionate to all.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Robert Henderson. She leaves behind her daughters, Anne Henderson, Theresa Hash (John), Laura Schneider(Robert), and Barbara Henderson; her sons Andrew(Linda), David(Lisa), and Matthew(Janice); and her 15 grandchildren who were the light of her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org. Visitation will be held at Boyd-Spencer Funeral Home on Sunday June 2, 2013 from 2:00-4:30pm and 7:00-9:30 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help RC Church Lindenhurst. Interment to follow Calverton National Cemetery.
