Louis R. Klein, 91, of Melbourne, Florida passed away Friday, January 9, 2015. A native of Middle Village, Queens, New York and formerly of Babylon Village, Long Island, New York, Louis moved to Florida in 1997.
Louis served in the United States Navy during WWII, his ship the USS Todd, toured the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Pacific Oceans completing its service to the US anchored next to the USS Missouri witnessing firsthand the surrender of Japan in 1945. He was also among the very first class of Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy on Long Island. He enjoyed an over forty year career in the Aerospace and Defense industry which included over twenty-five years with Grumman Aerospace, Bethpage, New York.
Louis was a member of Suntree United Methodist Church, Melbourne, Florida and was a former member of The United Methodist Church of Babylon. He was a life member of the Lions Club. Louis owned and operated Baymen’s Equipment Company and made clam tong handles and other clamming equipment to the local clam diggers in NY. He also enjoyed gardening.
Louis met his wife, Patricia T. Klein in Junior High and would have celebrated their 69th anniversary on January 23, 2015. Survivors also include three sons: Russell (Susan) Klein of Denver, North Carolina, Garrett Klein of Houston, Texas, and Brett (Kathleen) Klein of Melbourne, Florida; daughter, Jennifer (Richard) Siegel of Mamaroneck, New York; sister, Dorothy Klingenbeck of Oceanside, New York; five grandchildren: Justin (Anne) Klein, Lauren Klein, Jamiee Klein, Hannah Siegel and Charlotte Siegel; and three great-grandchildren: Makenzie, Aedan, and Logan Klein. He was predeceased by his late son, Jeffrey Leigh, late daughter, Luanne Elisabeth Klein, late brothers Joseph and George Klein and his late sister, Marie McCormack.
A celebration of Louis’s life will be celebrated with family and friends on, Monday, January 19, 2015, 2:00 – 4:30 and 7:00 – 9:30 pm, at Claude R. Boyd-Spencer Funeral Homes, 448 West Main Street, Babylon Village, New York 11702. His Religious Service will take place, at the funeral home, on Tuesday morning, January 20, 2015, 9:00 am, with Reverend Pastor Thomas Carney, of The United Methodist Church of Babylon officiating.
