Rest in Peace, old friend! 

Those six seasons of coaching track together @ BHS really bonded us. Though we lost touch these past few years, I have never forgotten some of the hilarious times that we spent together, seven days a week [in-season] on the bus, in the coaches room, and with our athletes! Deepest condolences to Cristina, Christian, Marcella and the entire extended family. Our times together will always bring a smile or a chuckle to my face! Hoping the Good Lord in all his Mercy had your 'lucky pen' waiting for you!

I have a lot of really wonderful memories of The Big GR.  Most of them are from our time when I was running track in high school, during my freshman and sophomore years, and he was my coach.  We had a lot of good laughs together and experienced some success along the way.

The memory that sticks in my mind the most is one time when we were doing hurdle drills out on the track until the sun was going down, and it was getting difficult to see.  The running portion of the practice had ended a while ago, and we were the only two out there.  It was cold, and the wind picking up off Argyle Lake made it feel like it was time to call it a day and go home. "Just five more minutes", he said.  "They really should have lights out here."  

His commitment to my getting better, even if it were incremental progress, really set a high standard for me as an athlete and then later as a teacher, team leader, and ultimately as a father.  To be so patient and passionate about another person’s learning and development are the hallmarks of a world-class coach and teacher.

Few people in life ever find their calling, but there is no doubt that Mr. Repetto found his.  While I am sure he had challenges throughout his career, the energy and positivity he projected every day never let on that there was any issue.  In every practice, it always felt like we were training for the State Championship meet. 

I will miss him a lot, even though I didn’t get to see him as much in the last 20 years.  I am sorry for Mrs. Repetto, Christian, and Marcella’s loss.  He was such a wonderful man, and I will always remember him fondly.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I knew Gary in grade school and he was one of the kindest, sweetest people you could ever meet. Prayers go out to the family and all of his loved ones.

I wasn’t ready for this day Uncle G. I thought we’d talk this week and have one of those conversations where we say goodbye at least 15 times before we hang up. I’m gunna really miss joking with you and telling each other a bunch of stuff that isn’t true just to get a rise.

If you’re sending signs from heaven, send some money. Just like that $10,000 wedding gift you gave your favorite niece 😉 I know you’re up there laughing at that one 🙏🏻

Adriana was so excited about her 100 on her science test she made me send Uncle Gary this video!  She knew he loved science!

If there is a dance floor in heaven then Gary will be on it!! He loved to dance and he was good at it!!

Gary was a happy-go-lucky kind of guy. You always had a good time when he was around   Although I’ve only know Gary for a short period of time I can honestly say that I am honored to have known him.  This is just so heart breaking 💔

We were heartbroken to hear about Gary’s sudden passing. I cannot begin to imagine the depth of your sorrow at losing your beloved brother, someone who shared so much of life’s journey with you. Gary’s kind heart, devotion to his family, and his role as a loving husband, uncle, and grandfather are a testament to the beautiful legacy he leaves behind. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this incredibly difficult time.

In moments like these, I find comfort in the words of Jesus: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28). May you find peace in God’s love and in the precious memories you shared with Gary.

Gary enjoyed his summer at Deer Park after decades at Phelps Lane. A day at the "office" sometimes included playing on the diving boards. Gary braves the 3m board.

Another tradition was a pyramid picture wherever and whenever. Here Gary and I support the bulk of our female guards in a classic 4 level pyramid.

For a number of years I ran a Babylon Bar Crawl and one of the bars clearly had lifeguard stands. Here Gary demonstrates (with our encouragement) his typical no nonsense approach to lifeguarding...he would've fit in at Ocean Beach...the Land of No!

Tradition held that the crew went out to dinner at the end of the season...we went to Horace and Sylvia's in Babylon and of course it's a perfect opportunity for pictures.

Though between the two of us we worked about 60 years as TOB lifeguards we only worked one summer together...2005. Gary was the Lieutenant and I was the Boatswain.

RIP Cousin Gary.  We have many fond memories growing up spending holidays with our families.   Camping trips, adventures, pools, many stories to be told.   You leave a beautiful family with wonderful memories; they will cherish the love you brought them forever.   You will be forever in their hearts.

Gary was one of a kind I will always cherish our memories on our Mediterranean cruise to Italy together.  He was a wonderful man  extremely intelligent, very knowledgeable loved life he was  taken away from us too soon my heart goes out to his family. I will miss him tremendously. The bond that Valerie and Gary shared together between aunt and nephew, was so amazing and beautiful, and I know her heart will forever be broken, but I know she will cherish all the memories that she was fortunate enough to share with him.  May he rest in peace we love and miss you Gary keep smiling♥️😘

I was shocked to hear of Gary's passing. The Lord took him too early. He was a jovial, fun loving guy who captured the hearts of the family and especially the grand children. He will be dearly missed by all. I pray that God will give the family the strength to get through this painful time. May Gary Rest In Peace in Jesus name, Amen.

Our sincere condolences to Cristina, Marcella, Christian and family. We love Gary! Such a kind, caring and loving man. The last time we spoke was when we passed each other walking in Southard’s - not so long ago. Gary was his usual enthusiast self, walking his dog and saying hello to so many other people he knew as they passed us by. He radiated love and joy! He touched so many lives through his teaching and service. He will be truly missed and I am blessed to have known him. A true gentle soul.
