Cheryl Elease Ward was born November 1, 1948 in East Meadow, NY to parents Isaiah and Thelma Satchell. As a child Cheryl lived in Oyster Bay, NY where she attended The Oyster Bay School. In 1962, the family relocated to North Babylon, NY. She graduated from North Babylon High School in 1966. Following high school, Cheryl attended Suffolk Community College. Her work life included Metropolitan Life Insurance and the Barbizon School of Modeling. Cheryl began her career with Babylon High School in 1984 as a cafeteria monitor, then worked as a resource room teachers aide, before becoming a clerk typist. She retired from Babylon High School in 2010.
Cheryl married Leonard C. Ward, Jr. Together they raised three wonderful sons, Maurice (Jaqui), Jarrett (Kristy) and Ramone (Christina). Grandmother "Nan" to four beautiful grandchildren, Jalen, Emma, Bailey and Brennan. Beloved sister of the late Lawrence (Beverly) Satchell, and is survived by brother Dirwin (Carzella) Satchell. Cherished Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Cheryl was a brownie and then a girl scout. She was the first black cheerleader to cheer for North Babylon High School. She was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church Choir in Oyster Bay, NY. Cheryl was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 94 Babylon, and the American Veterans Auxiliary Post No. 48 Ronkonkoma. Cheryl was also a union president at Babylon High School.
Cheryl enjoyed watching her boys play football, and could often be seen running down the sidelines cheering them on. Other passions of hers included singing and spending time with her family. She also took pleasure in watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, The Food Network, soap operas and NFL football. Cheryl was extremely lucky when she played the lotto and slots. She was very generous in sharing her fortunes with her family.
Cheryl was known to many as, Mrs. Ward in the front office, Mama Ward, Nan and Shay.
She will be missed by many, but forgotten by none.
