She was the niece and goddaughter of Nellie Hrystak and the beloved wife of Arthur Whelan (both deceased). She leaves in sorrow her children Bonnie (Brad), Joseph (Valerie), her special confidant and sister-in-law Peggy, as well as many nephews, nieces, and friends.
Sylvia was quiet and shy, and preferred to spend her time reading. She always put others first, doing her best to ensure her children had the same opportunities as everyone else regardless of income status, and for that her children are forever grateful. In the end, she proved to be quite strong.
The family would like to offer their gratitude to Nancy, Brenda, Myrtho, and all the staff at the Garry J. Armstrong Home for the respect, care, and compassion they showed Sylvia during the years of her stay.
In memory, donations to the Distress Centre of Ottawa and Region would be appreciated.
God saw you getting tired when a cure was not to be. So, he wrapped his arms around you, and whispered, "Come to me."
