It is with extreme sadness that we announce that Zelibanos “Zelly” Sean, 30, of Austin, Texas, passed away early in the morning of February 20. He was struck by a car while stopping to help with a vehicle in distress.
Zelly’s family was unprepared for this sudden and tragic loss. He was a loving, funny, generous husband, son, and friend. His death has left a hole in the lives of many that is unlikely to be filled anytime soon.
Zelly was born in Los Angeles, California; but he called Austin home. He graduated from McNeil High School and received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He was a member of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity.
Zelly never knew a stranger and made everyone feel welcomed. He was known among his loved ones for his big heart, big opinions, big voice, and most of all, his big head. He enjoyed Mexican beer and a good laugh with his friends and loved ones. He loved fiercely and deeply and we take comfort in knowing that Zelly is now at peace surrounded by light.
Zelly met his wife, Julia Sean, on a blind date in San Antonio, and the rest was history. They loved each other unconditionally and without limits. They were better people for having been together. They recently celebrated five years of marriage, and had become homeowners as well as pet parents to two rabbits, Barack Obunny and Luna.
Zelly is survived by his wife, Julia Sean; his mother, Selamawit Zewde; and his brother, Eskender Elias.
A funeral service for Zelly will be held Saturday, February 26, 2022 from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at St Raguel Ethiopian Orthodox Church, 19000 St. Raguel Road, Manor, Texas 78653. Following the funeral service will be a memorial service from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78752.
Serving as pallbearers are Jonathan Daniel, Jonathon East, Eskender Elias, Eyosias Samson, Michael Loar, Desmond Mays, Matthew Rocha and Jonathan Self.
