Wooten L. Young was born July 5, 1922, in Austin, Texas, and passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2004. He graduated from Austin High School and then attended St. Edwards University prior to serving his country in World War II, as part of the 8th Army Air Force as an aerial gunner and engineer. After serving in the military, Wooten worked for AT&T and retired after 40 years of service. He was a long-time member of the Grand Jury Association, VFW Post 8787, American Legion Post #83 and Elks Lodge #201. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Eileen Punkin Young; one sister, Grace Jones of Bar Harbor, Maine; five children, Dale Young, Donna Lyons and husband Steve, Patricia Young of Austin, Larry Young of Corpus Christi and Garry Young and wife Debbie of Castroville; and six grandchildren. Wooten wished to extend special thanks to the caring staff at Austin Nursing Center. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 6:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 10, 2004, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery. A gathering of friends is planned after the service at the American Legion Knebel Post #83, 4401 E. St. Elmo Rd., Austin, 442-2896.
