On Thursday, July 18, 2013, Winnie Jo Handy Baines passed from this temporal life to her eternal home in heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In but a moment her walk of faith in God through Christ became reality as she entered into His glorious presence.
Jo was born in Berclair, Texas to parents, Annie Cook and Kenneth Lee Handy, Sr.
She grew up in south Texas and spent most of her adult life as a resident of Austin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Kenneth Lee Handy, Jr., her sister, Annette, and her husband Huffman Baines, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Marsha Baines Burks and Annette Baines Roberts as well as granddaughters, Kristen Burks and Julie Burks and son-in-law, Tom Roberts. She is also survived by her nieces, Kelley Handy Jakubik and Stacia Handy Jauer and their respective families. Additionally, many other beloved family members have survived Jo.
Jo attended the University of San Antonio and the University of Texas. Hyde Park Baptist was her church home where she was actively involved in several ministries. She cherished the call to serve especially in the intercessory prayer ministry. She was closely involved in several charitable organizations including serving as president of the Settlement Club.
Jo's family is especially thankful for the treasured visits of Pat Chalmers and Pat Hammack who routinely kept Jo company numerous times each week. Jo's family expresses gratitude to the staff of Emeritus Senior Living at Spicewood and the services of Heart to Heart Hospice.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. with services beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 21st at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on North Lamar. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to either Hyde Park Baptist Church or the Settlement Home.
