William Phillip Wood, age 95, formerly of Houston, passed away peacefully February 18, 2012 in Austin, Texas. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Maureen Sullivan Wood.
William was born, December 28, 1916 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to William and Elizabeth (Higo) Wood. He was lucky enough to be born and raised in Ellis Park and had many fond memories of the park and his Cedar River. He served in the Army during World War II and was part of the regiment who were the first to go into occupied Japan. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 4577 Regina Coeli in Houston, Texas.
William is survived by his daughter, Kathie Bacqué and her husband Arthur of Austin, Texas; his son, William Dennis Wood and his wife, Billie of Giddings, Texas; three granddaughters, Amanda Bacqué of Austin, Carolyn Bacqué-Carson of Cape Canaveral, Florida, Sheri Rogers of Pasadena, Texas; one grandson, William Owen Wood of Texas; two great grandsons, Patrick Rogers of Pasadena, Texas and William Wood of Texas; and one great granddaughter, Avery Wood of Texas; his sisters-in-laws, Eloise Wood of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Phyllis McAndrews of Alexandria, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special friend, Gann Boyd of Austin, Texas.
The family would like to thank the Seton Medical Center in Austin and the Hospice Austin Christopher House for all the love and support they have provided us over the years. He will miss his many friends at the Clairmont Retirement Home where he lived for the last 7+ years and the help of his friends at Home Instead who helped him live independently for so long.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 p.m., February 22, 2012 at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be mailed to William’s daughter, Kathie Bacqué, 9805 Queensland, Austin, Texas 78729. All memorials received will be used to purchase a Memorial Brick honoring William and Maureen to be place at the Christopher House in Austin, Texas.
