Bill was preceded in death by his Father William Howard Munroe and his Mother Gladys Marie Munroe (nee Peters)
Bill graduated from Ovid High School in 1953 then joined the Army where he served at the Pentagon for three years. He left the Military with the rank of Sargent. He utilized the GI Bill and went back home where he attended college at Michigan State University and received his Bachelor of Arts degree.
He moved to Chicago Illinois and started his teaching career at the Avoca school system in Wilmette Illinois. While teaching he proceeded to get his Masters Degree in Education from North Eastern University. Bill taught at Marie Murphy School for 37 years. Bill also sang with the North Shore Choral Society. Bill enjoyed his retirement.
He and Martin moved to Charleston in 1996 where Bill was an avid volunteer with Low Country Aids Services. He participated and helped drive patients to and from their Doctors appointments, delivered meals and offered compassion and acceptance to all he encountered. He enjoyed the Arts and volunteered as an usher with Spoleto for many years. His love of gardening was evident in his beautiful landscaping in which he surrounded himself.
Life brought Bill and Martin to Austin Texas in 2007. In Austin he volunteered with Project Transitions, a group that is dedicated to serving those living with HIV and Aids.
Bill is survived by his life partner of 39 years Martin Paul Janda, Austin . Dear friends Sandra Eaton and her wife Constance George of Austin, Texas and Barbara Baer and her partner Linda Messenger of Johnsburg, Illinois. His sister Sally Lou Sanford (Munroe) and her husband Thomas both of Michigan.
Their children: Robin Jorgensen and her husband Aaron of, Michigan, Thomas Sanford and his wife Rebecca of Michigan, Cynthia Sanford of Michigan, Lori Porter and her husband Robert of Michigan,
Besides his family Bill is leaving behind many dear friends across the country from Chicago to Charleston, Austin and California and he will be dearly missed by all
