William "Bill" A. Langham, from Austin, TX, passed away April 14, 2025, at 5:49pm at the age of 78. Bill was born in Bellville, TX on December 9, 1946, to Wallace Langham & Louise Gray. Bill attended Bellville schools until high school at which time he attended Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan, TX. He worked as a steel tyer on the A&M football stadium until he was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1967. He married the love of his life, Bettye Jane Hyvl of Caldwell, TX on June 3, 1967. Bill proudly served in the army and received an honorable discharge in 1970. He spent 13 months of his military time serving as a helicopter crew chief in Vietnam.
After his honorable discharge, he worked in various jobs, primary in sales, in the Houston, TX area. As a salesman, he has was hired to open a satellite office for Anthony Pools in Miami, FL. In 1981, he & Bettye moved their family to Austin, TX where they opened and operated Cardinal Pools of Austin until 2001. At which time, Anthony & Sylvan Pools bought the company. Bill & Bettye continued working for Anthony & Sylvan Pools until 2008, at which time Bill semi-retired. He continued in the pool business doing pool renovations & repairs.
Bill enjoyed playing loud music, dancing all night long and became heavily involved in “mud truck racing" across central & southern Texas. His truck “Bare Facts” became a strong contender quickly.
In 2011, he was diagnosed with vascular issues and lost both legs, becoming a double amputee by 2012.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Louise Gray, and father Wallace Langham.
He is survived by his wife, of 58 years, Bettye Langham; brother James Arthur Langham of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Candice Hill of Leander, TX; grandsons Zachary Brown of Hudson Oaks, TX; Jeffry Vaughan & wife Vanessa, including great-grandson Jeffry Vaughan III “Thrice” and great-granddaughter Jett Emilia Lorelai Vaughan of Bastrop, TX; Alex Vaughan & wife EmmaLynn, including great-granddaughter Elena Rose Vaughan; son Clayton Langham & wife Alischa Runyon, including granddaughters Rebekah & Abbigail of Cedar Creek, TX; sister-in-law Doris Blackmon & husband Gail of Caldwell, TX; and brother-in-law Dan Hyvl & wife Lavonne of Channelview, TX and numerous nephews & nieces of Caldwell / College Station, TX area.
The family would like to thank the staff of St David’s Round Rock Medical Center as well as Gentiva Hospice who made sure he was taken care of and comfortable in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, we would like to ask for donations to be sent to the VA in Temple, TX or Gentiva Hospice in honor of William “Bill” Langham.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at Bill & Bettye’s home in Austin, TX on May 10, 2025 from 2pm – 6pm.
