A native of Austin, he loved the lakes and the Hill Country, as well as the black dirt east of Austin. While he spent his career as an auditor with the State of Texas, his hobbies and interests showed in his love for the area. He enjoyed camping, boating on the Highland Lakes, hunting, and particularly enjoyed farming and ranching. He loved his sons and tried to show them how to enjoy life by sharing those interests with them. He remained devoted to his former wife Janice Billings Gage and in his latter years enjoyed traveling and camping with her. Most of all he enjoyed telling a corny joke and making sure people had a good laugh.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents William Joe Gage, Sr. and Hilda Luedecke Gage, as well as his son William Clayton Gage. He is survived by his former wife, fiancée, and confidante Janice Billings Gage; son Tim Gage (Susan); granddaughter Stephanie; and two great-grandsons; as well as one brother and two sisters.
The family wishes to thank the personnel at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Lockhart, Texas, and DaVita Dialysis Centers for the care they provided in the last few months of his life.
