William Maurice Eklund

William Maurice Eklund, 90, of Austin, passed away January 26, 2017. He was born August 5, 1926 in Cat Spring, Texas, the son of Henry and Adele Theuman Eklund. Bill attended Austin High School where he played basketball, served as a Staff Sergeant during World War II, the Reserve Corps in Hawaii, and as an Army Sergeant during the Korean War. Later, he worked for J R Reed Music Company, and was owner of Princess Craft RV.

Bill was a member and Deacon for many years at First Presbyterian Church. He especially loved football (Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns), PGA golf, and fishing.

Bill will be missed by his wife Eva Joy Eklund; daughter Allison Eklund; and stepchildren Melanie Gossett, Janet and Mike O'Neil, grandchildren Jason and Chandra Eklund; step grandchildren Gary, Brian and Brent Gossett; great-grandchildren Zane, Cruz and Kai Eklund and their mother Laura; step great-grandchildren, Emma Beniza, Eli and Jet Gossett, and their mother Cassie, Austin and Alexis Gossett.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his loving sister Elaine Knebel, and stepsons Kevin O'Neil and Terry Matthews.

Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church in Austin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or a charity of choice.

The family gives heartfelt thanks for the loving care from the staff at San Gabriel Care Center and Brookdale Hospice.
