William Keith Connor of Austin, Texas, died Monday, January 4, 2021, at the age of 89. Bill was born in Houston, Texas, on December 19, 1931, to father William Mayo Connor and mother Nell Evelyn Keith, and was their only child. As a teenager he worked in his father’s pharmacy and studied piano. He attended Rice University for his undergraduate degree, and received his Masters from Southern Methodist University.
After moving to Austin, Texas, Bill worked for Tracor, Inc., eventually becoming a Vice-President of his division. He taught architectural acoustics at The University of Texas at Austin, was an accomplished concert pianist, and enjoyed playing the organ at All Saints Episcopal Church, where he was a pillar of the church that he dearly loved. He volunteered weekly for the Fishes and Loaves program to support the community, was once the Senior Warden for the church, and a volunteer of the Stephen Ministry, where he provided emotional and religious support and assistance to others. When not working or volunteering, he and his wife, Mary, always looked forward to attending a monthly dinner club with their friends, and he enjoyed sailing on Lake Travis.
Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth Connor. He is survived by his three sons, William Hayden Connor, Charles Keith Connor and Jonathan Scott Connor; his grandchildren, Shelby Hayden Connor, Spencer Keith Connor, Sydney Meghan Connor, Olivia Marie Connor and Jackson Lin Connor; and his great grandson, Luca Pascal Mueller.
Due to current restrictions, there will be no visitation. A private funeral service for family is planned, and his remains will be held in the columbarium at All Saints Episcopal Church in Austin, Texas, alongside his beloved wife.
