Dick Benson was born on March 25th, 1949 in Dallas, Texas to William E. and Lee Benson. In 1972 he graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with emphasis in Psychology and Philosophy. Dick was the Student Body President at the University of Texas during the Vietnam war. Dick married Judy Ryser in 1974 and had three sons William Nicholas Benson, Jeffrey Dixon Benson, and Will Edward Makana Benson.
Dick worked as a General Contractor with his father as Architect on several projects. The duo completed both commercial and residential projects. Dick went on to partner and develop more complicated commercial projects and found his niche in the development of CATV systems in Central Texas. But, first and foremost, Dick Benson was a father.
Dick was the first one to tell a joke (not always an appropriate one), and dabbled in lymrics, cigars, fine scotch, and rock-n-roll.
The man cherished his boys and his many friendships, and among these, he shared his love and intense intellectual curiosity.
Dick was deeply cared for and the family will be eternally grateful to Jeanne Plassman, Perry Lorenz, Sam Griswold, Chris Cooke, Maya Pruett, Robbie Clark, the Caudillos, Amanda MacLean, and the many friends at the Brookdale Community
.
Dick is survived by his sister River Benson and his son Jeff Benson. He is preceded in death by his father William E. Benson, his mother Lee Benson, and his two sons Nick and Will Benson.
There will be a celebration of Dick's life on Wednesday January 18, 2017 at 1 pm at Mercury Hall, 615 Cardinal Lane, Austin, Texas 78704. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dick's life. In lieu of flowers, donations to the America Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
