Wilburn W French

He was born in 1936 in Dickenson, TX. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Alma Jo French. He is also survived by his daughter, Brenda Parrish and her husband, Curtis of Lubbock, TX as well as his son, Allen W. French and his wife, Kimberly of Bertram, TX. He had many happy times with his 7 grandchildren: Bryan Parrish, Jennifer Cravey, Scott Cravey, Hayden Parrish, Kirk French, Jared French and Smider French. He is survived by 3 brothers and a sister, Weldon French of Bertram TX, Elvin French of San Jose, California, JD French of Liberty Hill, TX and Lura Mae French (“Sister”) of Houston, TX. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ora Stella French, and 2 brothers, Roy French and Glen French.

Wilburn was a faithful servant of God. He taught Bible Classes for over 50 years, from teenagers to the elderly. His mission in life was sharing Jesus with others. He served as an elder of Southside Church of Christ for 3 years and Westover Hills Church of Christ for 27 years.

He served in the military for 9 years. He was a graduate of the University of Texas and was a devout Longhorn fan. He worked for the Texas Research League for 34 years, moving from an office boy to fundraiser to Vice Chairman over that time. He raised in excess of $1,000,000 a year for the company. He was well respected by the top business executives and bank presidents of Texas as they worked together to improve state government. He was honored by Governor Bill Clements for his outstanding service to the state of Texas.

Wilburn had many health problems throughout his life, but through it all, he had a great sense of humor and kept everyone laughing. He was also an avid fisherman and loved to teach his grandchildren how to fish.

The family wishes to express our heartfelt appreciation to German Molina and Jasmin Marshall for the outstanding care and love they gave to Wilburn over the past several years. They were both a great blessing to him.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with family on Sunday, the eighth of January 2012 from five o’clock until seven o’clock in the evening at Cook Walden, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, TX. Funeral services will be held on Monday, the ninth of January at one o’clock in the afternoon at Westover Hills Church of Christ, 8332 Mesa Drive, Austin, TX.
