Wanda Marcelle Cregg Anderson, passed away on May 15, 2023 into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born December 27, 1921 to the late Neta and Lee Cregg in Enloe, Texas. After graduating from Enloe High School, Wanda was employed by Triple A Agricultural Office in Cooper, Texas. During World War II, she moved to Dallas, Texas and worked for the Eighth Service Command Headquarters.
In 1943, she married the late Rene Anderson, living in California and Arizona where they were stationed during the war years. Their 3 children were raised in Longview, Texas and Austin, Texas. Following the death of her husband of 60 years, Wanda resided at Westminster, where she made many wonderful and dear friends.
“Girl” as she was known by her family and friends, grew up on a farm in Delta County. Without running water or electricity, she experienced all the hardships and work that farm life entails – gardening, canning, picking cotton, horse drawn wagons, and hog killing day (needless to say, this was not one of her favorites!) She certainly witnessed and survived incredible changes in this world, and thankfully, preserved some of her life stories in handwritten form. Though being technically challenged, she was known to occasionally ask us to “google that” and to order her something on Amazon!
Wanda devoted her life to homemaking and caring for her loved ones. She will be remembered for her love and pride in her family and friends. She had a zest for life and a quick wit. As she aged, she would often say how much she misses dancing, sundresses and high heels! Up until almost the very end we were still ordering items from Talbots and Chicos. One of her favorite sayings “Put on Your Big Girl Panties and Deal with It”! Our hearts are flooded with many wonderful shared memories, and she will be so very missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Rene Anderson; son, Doyce Anderson; grandson, Lee Brandon Walker; son in law, Bob Hughes.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Kesler; 2 daughters – Pam Burnette (Tom), Gail Hughes; 4 grandchildren – Tommy Burnette Sr, (Jenny), Erin Clayton (Shawn), Damon Anderson (Louise), Kayla Kothmann (Lee); 10 great grandchildren – Tommy Burnette Jr. (Karleigh), Taylor Burnette, Isabelle Burnette, Sam Clayton, Olivia Clayton, Amelia Clayton, Ainsley Anderson, Mason Kothmann, Lansing Kothmann, Davis Kothmann; 4 great great grandchildren – Thomas Burnette III, Charles Burnette, Stephen Burnette, Christian Phillips, daughter in law, Deborah Anderson; granddaughter in law, Carrie Fruge Walker; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
The family wants to thank Westminster – their staff, the aides, the employees for their awesome dedication and loving care and concern to our mom. And in particular to her very own earth angel, Adrianna Jara – a true bright and joyous light to Girl and to all of her family.
A Graveside service will be held in Cooper, Texas at Oaklawn Cemetery on Saturday May 20, 2023 at 2:00 PM.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
