Walter Gaynor Kendall, age 98, passed away at his home in Flower Mound on January 22, 2009. He was born August 10, 1910 in Benjamin, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1929 and the Law School in 1932, graduating fifth in his class. He served as Assistant Attorney General from 1933-35 and 1943-44. He and his beloved wife, Lois Cannon, were married for 72 years and had two children, Patricia Kendall Masters and Terrence Gaynor Kendall. Gaynor served in the United States Navy as a First Lieutenant during World War II. He returned to Austin to establish his law practice and practiced many years with his firm, Kendall, Randall, Finch & Osborn in Austin until the age of 92. He was investment counsel for the State Board of Education. He taught law at the UT School of Law for many years, coaching a national champion moot court team. He served on the Board of Directors for the State Bar of Texas and was honored as a Fifty Year member of the Bar. He was President of the Travis County Bar Association. He was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Fifth Circuit, and the courts of this state. He is preceded in death by his wife and two children. He is survived by his son-in-law, the Rev. Ralph Masters, his daughter-in-law, Diana Kendall, his grandchildren, Rebecca Winston (and husband, Chris Winston), Elizabeth Fraley (and husband, Scott Fraley), John Kendall Masters (and wife, Cheryl Masters) and Gordon Kendall, and his great grandchildren, William Winston, Kathryn Fraley, Alexandra Fraley and Zachary Fraley, and Abigail Masters and Emily Masters. He was the finest man we knew. Visitation will be held at Weed-Corley- Fish Funeral Home on Saturday, January 24 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and graveside services on Sunday, January 25 at 2 p.m. at Austin Memorial Park.
