Virginia T. Rowley was born in Wichita Falls, Texas December 31, 1911, youngest of 4 children of her parents Charles Milton Turner and Uvena Ethelda Balch. Virginia was 94 when she passed away June 16. Reared in Fort Worth, she moved to Austin in 1940, to work for Selective Service. Later she was secretary to the head of this organization. Her career lasted until 1969. She met her husband-to-be, Clarence Alvin Rowley, at that first job in Austin. They married 1942. Virginia was both excellent at her job and well-liked by her fellow workers. She still has friends today from these times. She loved gardening, travel, new products, books, and enjoyed watching PBS from mysteries to finance to news. She sang and shared a love of music with her husband. With her interest in history, she researched her ancestry to join United Daughters of the Confederacy and served this organization several years. This interest in family history passed to her daughter. Virginia also served her church, having been reared as a Christian Scientist, and strongly believed in her religion. Shes lived at the same residence since 1947, with good neighbors, and continued with the daily tasks of living until now. She was so spiritually strong and could love unhesitantly those she cared about. Her characteristics gentleness, being quite particular, perseverance, patience all will be much missed. Family was important. Survivors are husband Alvin and, in California, daughter Jo Ann and her husband George Minhoto. Other close surviving family: cousins Pat Roth and Frank Arthur Boggeman; grandnieces Denise Turner and Sherry Scialla; sister-in-law Evelyn Hicks and her family.
