Grammie grew up in Wilson County, North Carolina and after high school, attended the Watts Hospital School of Nursing in Durham, North Carolina. It was at nursing school where she met the man of her dreams, Charles Jack Dye. For two years, they dated with Charles traveling 50 miles from Fayetteville to spend time with his future bride. They were married in 1951 and just recently celebrated their 67 wedding anniversary. Grandad was the love of her earthly life.
Grammie began her career as a Registered Nurse working in pediatrics. She halted her career to welcome and raise her two daughters, Vicky and Toni. When she resumed her career, she served in the emergency room, worked with cancer patients, In Service Director, and concluded her career as the Head of the Endoscopy lab in Fayetteville. She ended up retiring after almost 20 years as an RN. She maintained her service to others by volunteering at the Red Cross and working with Seniors at her church.
Grammie was incredibly gifted in Arts and Crafts. She loved painting, designing pins and costume jewelry. Her other interests including reading, traveling, dancing, playing games, and most recently striving to win at bingo. She was loved fashion and was known for many years by her colorful and uniquely designed hats.
Grammie's greatest love was the Lord, her Savior. She was an active member of all the churches she belonged to over the years. She was very involved in the women's ministry and had a great gift for teaching God's Word. Grammie always had a Bible handy and would end each day reading Scripture with Grandad.
We will miss Grammie and her passion as a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, the hat lady, the lady in purple, and most importantly as one who loved the Lord.
