She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Berkman; her parents, Paul and Mary Jatzlau; 3 brothers, Leonard, Melvin, and Abe Jatzlau, and 2 sisters, Irene Mueller and Evelyn Kellar. Verline is survived by her children; daughter, Linda Bell and husband, Jeff; and son, Glenn Berkman and wife, Linda. Grandchildren are Jeff Bell Jr. and wife, Nicki; Beau Bell and wife, Keri; Mace Bell; Scott Berkman and wife, Nicole; Jaime Rackley and husband, Chris; and Chad Berkman. Great-Grandchildren are Zach Schwarzlose, Maci Bell, Austin Bell, Khloe Bell, Makenzie Berkman, Dylan Berkman, Quinn Rackley, Lake Rackley, and Elle Rackley. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Verline moved to Austin in 1947 to live with her Aunt Minnie and worked at a printing company where she met her future husband, Stanley. Verline and Stanley were married June 27, 1948 at Grace Lutheran Church in Smithville, TX. They celebrated 67 years of happy married life. She was a dedicated homemaker and very active member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church. She headed the Bereavement Committee at Gethsemane for a number of years; making hundreds of her special chicken salad sandwiches for which she was well known. She was a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher and was a long-time member of the Mary Group.
Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX. Funeral Services will be Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 200 W. Anderson Lane, Austin, TX. Viewing starts at 12:00 pm on Sunday.
