Velda was a high school English teacher at Palo Duro High School in Amarillo, Texas. She was also director of the CVAE program for the Amarillo ISD. After moving to Austin, Texas in 1987 she became a full time writer. She authored two historical romance novels, published by Leisure Books after her 75th birthday. She held book signings at Barnes and Noble and other local book stores in Austin and Bastrop.
She loved and was loved by a very active church family at Rolling Hills United Methodist Church in Lago Vista, Texas. She will be greatly missed by her Sunday School Class, Bible Study Class, and host of very special friends.
Even with all of her time given to Church, writing and teaching, Velda's focus was always her faith and her family. Our Mother lived her life as an example that urged her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to contribute more to this world than they expected or needed to receive. "Count your blessings! To whom much is given, much is expected." As a Christian family we believe she is now with friends and family. We loved her dearly and will miss her always.
Velda and Marvin celebrated life often and danced a million miles across Texas.
Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to favorite charity or Rolling Hills United Methodist Church in Lago Vista, Texas or Cal Farley's Boys Ranch in Amarillo, Texas and any Native American charity for children.
