On Sunday, March 26, 2023, Valdemar (Val) Pérez, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother & friend passed away at his home in Austin, Texas after a long illness. He was seventy-five. Val was born on May 28, 1947, to Baldemar and Aurora Pérez in Kingsville, Texas. He graduated from Texas A&I in Kingsville with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering and went on to become a licensed Professional Engineer. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Reserves and then worked for Southwestern Bell for more than 20 years before retiring. He was a lifelong member of the Freemasons of Gray Lodge in Houston. He married Kathleen Wright in 1969 and they celebrated more than 53 years of love together.
Val's greatest joy was his family and children especially his grandchildren, Julian, Benjamin & Josephine. He loved tinkering in his garage, catching up with his sister, camping with his brother, treasure-hunting with his metal detector, star-gazing, reading, harassing telemarketers and watching Judge Judy. He was always prepared for any breakdown or emergency with a spare fuse, a flashlight and a full tank of gas. He left us a strong work ethic, a deep sense of responsibility and so much love. We will miss him dearly and think of him every time we see a shooting star or find an arrowhead.
He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Pamela. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his children, Candace (Jason Allen) of Decatur, GA, Elizabeth of NYC, Nicholas (Katie McCurdy) of Burlington, VT; his siblings, Sandra Morrisey and Robert Pérez (Becky), and many loved nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
Val will be honored in a private memorial service.
The family is grateful for the staff of Texas Oncology, St. David's, Urology Austin, Hospice Austin and the wonderful neighbors who supported Val & Kathy over the last few years. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider donating to your local blood bank or food bank in Val's memory.
