Truman K. Keplinger passed away on Friday, September 2nd, 2022, at home in Mountain City, Texas at the age of 86. Truman was dearly loved by his wife Janis and their children Joseph and Hollie Kramer, Keith Keplinger, and Tony Keplinger.
Truman is survived by his sister, Betty Swiggart, his grandchildren Keith, Kyle, and Tyler Keplinger, niece Kathy Boyle, nephew Dewey Chenault, and numerous extended family members.
Truman attended McAlester High School in Oklahoma and joined the Navy in 1953 as a Storekeeper, earning the rank of Chief Petty Officer before retiring from Active Duty in 1980. He continued his federal service at the VA Finance Center in Austin, Texas until his retirement in 1996.
In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, scattering his tools all over the patio, annoying local wildlife as much as they annoyed him, golf, roller-skating, and bowling.
He will be remembered for his endless supply of Navy stories, most of which were not considered appropriate in mixed company, his eager, sage advice, dispensed in a manner to allow the recipient to fail and wish they’d listened to him in the first place, and his constant compassionate support of his loved ones.
A graveside service will be held at Cook-Walden/ Forest Oaks on Monday, September 12th, 2022, at 11:00 AM. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society.
