Tony Herrera and Susie Herrera passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2011 in Georgia while on vacation with their granddaughter, Juli Herrera. Tony Herrera, born on October 1, 1949, was 61 years young. Susie Herrera, born on January 28, 1958, was 53 years young. Tony, born and raised in Austin, graduated from Travis High School. Tony worked for Internal Revenue Service for 41 years. Additionally, Tony was an avid softball player for many decades, and was a zealot University of Texas sports fan. Susie, born in St. Ignace, Michigan and raised in Austin, ran a child daycare facility in South Austin and enjoyed nurturing the minds of children in her care. Both Tony and Susie were extremely active with their grandchildren and both did everything they could to help others in need. They were major influencers in the lives of their children providing guidance, insight and wisdom. Tony and Susie loved their children and grandchildren very much and would have done anything for them all.
Tony and Susie will be sadly missed by their beloved children, Richard, Georgia, and Joshua Herrera and grandchildren, Diego, Juli, and Jacob Herrera.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Refugio and Antonia Herrera. He is survived by his siblings, Domingo Herrera, Esther Bauer and husband, Steve, Joni Herrera, Janice Ward and husband, Steven, Lorraine Herrera, and Mary Sue Tamayo and husband George; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
Susie was preceded in death by her father, Grady Ward. She is survived by her mother, Ann Ward; siblings, Vera Slovacek and husband, Joey, Maureen Hunter and husband, Mike, and Michael Ward; numerous other relatives, and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., Friday, July 15, 2011 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with the Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 P.M. led by the Legion of Mary. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 16, 2011 at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church, 126 W. Oltorf with Father Bill Wack, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Onion Creek Memorial Park.
Honoring Tony and Susie as pallbearers will be Javier Gamboa, Chuck Collins, Greg Smith, Albert Zamora, Marcellus Griffin, Anthony Thomas, Martin Santibanee, Jose Ruiz, Gabriel Felipe, Steve Ward, Dustin Simpson, Kirk T. Gillis, Adolfo Laurel III, Ray Saldana and John Paul Ballesteros.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Cosmecullar Cuellar and Brad Toft.
