She was employed at Travis State School for many years. After the death of her sister Johnnie she took on the responsibility of raising and educating her two nephews, Roosevelt Clark and Robert Wilson and her own daughter, Rev. Ruby L. Morris. She later married the late Willie J. Brooks who had one daughter, Doris. Birthed to this union was a son, Willie Earl Brooks. The family resided in Clarksville until moving to the current residence in East Austin.
Mother was a "mother" to all kids in the neighborhood. They knew where to go when they hungry or just needed someone to love on them.
The family were active members of Sweet Home Baptist Church until the late Reverend Marlin Carter called on her to help him with the Usher Board at Greater Love Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member of Greater Love Baptist Church for over 37 years. She served as an Usher in both churches for a total of 50 years. She also served as a Missionary and in the Golden Harvest Ministry. Mother gave love and respect to all and she was loved and respected by all. For thirty years she was the "mother" of the Greater Love Family.
Mother traveled quite extensively with her daughter covering several countries. Her nephew Roosevelt has always provided support for her, regardless of his journey. Mom loved the Lord and her children with all her heart. Every day you could hear her singing and humming the old hymns.
Mother was preceded in death by parents; and sister; former husband, Willie J. Brooks; step-daughter, Doris Brooks; and nephew, Robert Wilson.
Mother leaves to cherish her precious memory, son, Willie Brooks who became her caretaker until her death; daughter and overseer, Ruby Morris, Pastor of Morris Memorial Full Gospel Baptist Church, Los Angeles, Ca.; Louis Roosevelt Clark, Retired Col. United States Army, El Paso, Texas; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. She is also survived by long time friend, Maurice Owens for over 60 years.
Wake Service will be held from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Friday, September 30, 2016 at Greater Love Baptist Church, 6601 Manor Road Austin, TX 78723 with Funeral Services to be held Saturday, October 1st at 11:00 am.
Interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
