Thomas Edward Whaley passed away February 20, 2007. Tom was born in Marietta, Ohio September 23, 1939. He was raised in Charleston, West Virginia. Tom married and was blessed with two children Melissa and Stephaney. After receiving his Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1963, he began his 35-year career with Exxon Corporation at its refinery in Linden, New Jersey. Over the years, he assumed positions of increasing responsibility over his career with Exxon and retired in 1998 as Supply and Distribution Manager for Latin America. Tom remarried in 1984 to Lora Ruth Skvorc. They were married in Hawaii and subsequently lived in New Jersey, Miami, Vero Beach, and Austin. During his time in New Jersey, Tom was appointed by two separate Governors to the Commission on Energy Planning and Conservation, and to the Right-To-Know Council. He also served on the Board of Elizabeth General Medical Center. Tom retired from Exxon in 1998 and moved with his wife Lora to Vero Beach, Florida. Since retirement, he earned a Master of Science in Space Studies in 2003 from the University of North Dakota, which provides the distance education program under a partial grant from NASA. Tom was a great man, intelligent, kind, loving, and fair. He will be missed dearly by his family and many friends. Tom is survived by his wife Lora and his daughters Melissa and Stephaney, and their families. Tom and Lora had recently moved to Austin to be closer to his daughter, Melissa and her husband Glenn Hawthorne and to assuage his love for country music. Stephaney and her husband, Bob Weber, reside in New Jersey with Tom's granddaughter Ashley Nicole Reid. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, March 4th at 2 PM at Weed Corley-Fish, 3125 N. Lamar Boulevard.
