When he was 6, they moved to Austin. He graduated from Lanier High School in 1965 and went on to graduate from Southwest Texas State University–the first in his family. It was at SWTSU where he met Kit McCarthy, Five months later on February 14, 1970 they were married.
Tommy was drafted into the Army in the Fall of 1970. After boot camp in California, he was stationed in Tacoma, Washington, then the UN Compound in Seoul Korea. Kit joined him in Korea and that started a love of travel and adventure.
Tommy was in the Wholesale Beauty Business for the majority of his adulthood, working first as the Executive Vice-President of Armstrong McCall Beauty supplies then owning the South Austin franchise.
He was happiest when around family and friends. He often spoke of his “5 favorite girls–Kit, daughter Stacey, daughter-in-law Sarah, and Granddaughters Marlies and Josie.” He loved spending time hunting with friends and son Polk, having dinner with high school buddies and traveling. He would always point out that he had been to 70+ countries!
He is survived by his wife Kit, daughter Stacey Beeby & husband Markus, granddaughters Marlies and Josie Beeby, son Thomas “Polk” Randall V, sister Linda McCutcheon and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends- old and new.
