Thelma Woods

Thelma graduated from Austin High School and then received her RN degree at Brackenridge Hospital School of Nursing in 1940. She was Director of Nurses at Buckner Baptist Villa Siesta Retirement Home and later became the Administrator.

A strong loving mother and dear friend, Thelma brought joy and laughter to all. She was known as “Mama Woods” and as “Skippy” by her friends from French Quarter. Thelma loved her friends; she was a beautiful person inside and out, she loved to giggle.

Rags, the family pet lovingly watched over “Skippy” each and every night.

She will be joining her husband John H Woods and greeted by loving sisters; Eura, Edna, IdaBelle, Peaches, and Elizabeth and her brother Walter and as they come together in our sweet Heaven.

She is survived by her daughter Joy and her son Johnny and his wife Natalie, grandsons Corby and James and many nieces and nephews.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, on Friday, the 14th of June 2013, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.

Graveside service will be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 15th of June 2013, followed by the Memorial Service at Shepherd of the Hill Christian Church, 6909 West Court Yard Drive, Austin, Texas. Light refreshments will be provided by the family through Cook-Walden Funeral Home Catering Services following the service.
