Thelma Faye Boyd Byrd, age 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August, 22, 2007, at Walnut Hills Convalescent Center. Thelma was born November 12, 1916 in Friday, Texas. She was the eldest of 10 children born to Fannie Thompson Boyd of Lovelady, Texas and Oscar E. Boyd of Alba, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Reagan Byrd; sisters, Gladys Couch of Houston, Texas; Frances Sandwell of Muskogee, Okla.; Billie Jane Whittlesey of Kansas City, Mo.; Maxine Hardesty of St. Louis, Mo., and Clairene Hunter of Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Thelma was raised in Muskogee, Oklahoma until her marriage and resided in Denison, Texas until 1972. Thelma was a member of Waples Memorial United Methodist Church in Denison. She was employed at Grayson County Jr. College until she relocated to Austin. She was employed as the PBX operator at the Student Health Center for the University of Texas retiring at age 70 after 10 years of service. After her retirement, Thelma became active at Memorial as the Sunday morning church hostess serving coffee, juice and donut holes before the church services for 15 years. Thelma was an avid Longhorn fan and rarely missed any UT Baseball, Basketball, and Football games, traveling to out of town games with UT friends for many years. Thelma loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play their sports and activities. Thelma is survived by daughter Norma Byrd Hauser (Bob); son, Michael R. Byrd (Jane). Grandchildren: Reggie Hauser (Cammie), Robin Hauser Jalufka (Danny), Ruth Hauser Klanika (Troy); Darin Byrd (Toni), David Byrd (Jennifer) and Lara Byrd. She has 15 great-grandchildren: Julie, Jake, Emily, Grayson, Ryan, Kendall, Wesley, Eryn, Ashley, Jacob, Lyric, Michael, Kevin, Madison, Ashleigh. Thelma's remaining siblings are Patrick B. Boyd of Muskogee, Ok., Barbara Ragsdale, Del City, Ok., Naomi Abbott of Muskogee, Ok., and Kathleen Ley of Florida, and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Thelma's life will be held at Memorial United Methodist Church in Austin on Saturday, August 25th, 2007. The family will receive friends at 10:00 am in the church parlor with service to follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Bill Harris officiating. Graveside services will be held in Denison, Texas on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 1:00 pm at Fairview Cemetery.
