Terry Mac Hickman, a life-long resident of Austin, passed away November 21, 2009 at the age of 61. Terry was born to Katherine and Stacy Hickman on September 9, 1948. He grew up in Central and South Austin, sharing many of his childhood adventures with his cousin, Billy Walker. Growing up, he was active in football and baseball. He graduated from Travis High School in 1966. While working as a bag boy at Handy Andy, Terry met Carol Arzt. They were married in 1968 and would go on to raise four children together. At the age of twenty, Terry joined the Austin Fire Department. He served for twenty-five years, receiving many commendations and retiring with the rank of captain. He was an avid golfer, outdoorsman, and guitar player. He was active in Scouting, coaching little league, and supporting the Crockett and Johnston High School Bands. Terry loved his hometown of Austin and loved serving the community and its people, whether it was as a firefighter, scout leader or Good Samaritan. The best of who he was lives on within the hearts of his children and grandchildren. Terry is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Carol Hickman of Austin; daughter, Donna and her husband Donnie Strube of Waring, Texas and their children Cody and Clinton; daughter, Susan Ewing of Liberty Hill, Texas and her children Christopher Hickman and Jacob Ewing; daughter, Becky and her husband Mark Murphy of Bastrop, Texas and their children Michael and John; and son, Scot Hickman and his wife Lori of Austin, Texas and their children Lillie, Adam, Gavin and William; brother, Kenneth Hickman and his wife Pam of Clinton, Arkansas; aunt, Lucille Walker of Austin, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service for Terry will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, December 5, 2009 in the Chapel of Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home located at 2620 South Congress Austin, Texas 78704.
