Steven was born March 6, 1967, in Huntsville, Alabama, to Deloris and Dwayne Crider. After a short time in Huntsville, the family moved to Gaithersburg, MD, but not long thereafter, made its way to the city and state where Steven was raised and thrived – Austin, TX.
Steven graduated from McCallum High School in 1985 and while there, was a standout center fielder on the baseball team. Wanting to get on with a career path straight out of high school, Steven immersed himself in work and developed expertise in several industries before finding his calling in real estate. Starting as a teenager selling office business machines, he pivoted to selling oil and gas opportunities in Texas, but ultimately had to scratch his entrepreneurial itch. Along with his uncle, Grant Crider and cousins, Steven launched HHGreen, a horticulture company based in Bremen, Alabama. As its President, Steven guided HHGreen and developed a leading reputation within the commercial greenhouse industry, boasting clients from coast to coast.
After establishing a foothold in the horticulture industry, Steven purchased Simburg, a commercial greenhouse manufacturing company in California, rebranded it as Crider Americas and ultimately relocated its headquarters to Austin – with the desire to be close to his family in his beloved home city as the driving force. The entrepreneurial streak continued as Steven harnessed Crider Americas’ commercial greenhouse manufacturing capabilities to establish another company, Crider Solar– a company specializing in the manufacture and construction of solar panel structures for various applications.
Ultimately, Steven’s love of real estate, sales and people won out and led him to securing his real estate license - his true calling. Over the next four years, he developed a formidable track record of selling numerous properties and houses in the Lake LBJ, Marble Falls, Horse Shoe Bay, and Kingsland areas.
Steven always had a sweet spot in his heart for Austin, where he joined Westwood Tennis Club. There, Steven orchestrated tennis teams who loved the weekly, friendly competition, but even more, the camaraderie that inevitably blossomed as a result.
In addition to his passion for tennis, Steven was captivated by Alabama football and PGA golf. College football Saturdays in the fall and Tide national championships couldn’t come fast enough, and in the spring he eagerly awaited the Masters golf tournament, watching it from start to finish.
Always the life of the party, Steven loved to laugh, entertain and uplift others. His infectious personality was inescapable and brought smiles and hilarity to countless people throughout his life.
Steven is survived by his devoted parents, Dee Dee and Dwayne Crider, his beloved children Steven and Charlotte, his sister Kim Crider and brother Clay Crider (Kandie), along with a host of family including uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.
Steven battled his illness fiercely and honorably for years, supported by the expertise of many talented medical professionals and truly caring individuals. We are deeply indebted to Dr. Helprin and the staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center, and to the Christopher House in Austin.
A celebration of Steven’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 8th, at Riverbend Church at 4214 N. Capital of Texas Hwy, Austin, TX 78746, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Christopher House (https://www.hospiceaustin.org/get-involved/donate/donation-form/) or your favorite charity in Steven’s honor.
