I just ran across this when I occasionally look up friends I knew at Thos Jefferson High.  I graduated a year ahead of Steve and saw him around 25-30 years ago playing tennis at Caswell in Austin.  He was friendly as always and I wished I had spoken to him more, but he was always shy.  Steve and Tommy were always over our house as they were always playing baseball with my brother, Jesse, also known as "Bubba", whom I lost over 10 years ago.  God Bless you, Steve and your family. I talked to a gentleman at the church before Steve's mass started.  I saw him standing in line to view Steve and how he walked away after a while. I walked over to him and asked him to not be discouraged and encouraged him to please pay his final respects.  I had seen him the day before in Austin at the rosary, sharing his memories of Steve with the family and asked if he would share with me.  He said he knew Steve for over 20 years, that they worked well together, that they could discuss work over the phone instead of having to meet in one or the others office.  He said that one day something had to be delivered somewhere and Steve was not himself and someone asked this gentleman if he would do the delivery.  He said yes and he said he asked Steve if he wanted to go, just for the ride, Steve went.  He said he and Steve had such a deep conversation during that ride, so intense, that they got lost.  What a wonderful memory.  This gentleman also shared that he had discussed with his wife that he was going to a rosary for a friend from work who passed away.  She shared that she too was going to a viewing of a friend at work whose husband passed away.  Turns out they both were going to Steve's viewing!   In talking to this gentleman he said that it's going to be hard at work now because Steve won't be there.  He and Steve, in all the years they worked together, developed such a wonderful work relationship  that's it's going to be hard to find that again.  I told him how much I appreciated him sharing his time and friendship with Steve with me.  Thank you sir for yet another great memory of Steve.

Knowing Steve has been a great blessing and we share your sorrow and grief.  We will never forget the kind, gentle, patient soul that he was and how he touched our lives thru you.  When y'all came to visit us in Italy, we had such a wonderful time and he was so sweet to put up with all of our craziness.  I still smile when I think about how we had him riding trains all over the place and walked his feet off thru the streets and canals of Venice. When we said we wanted to go to Austria, he jumped right in the passenger seat and off we went!  Most of all, I remember the ease with which he smiled and laughed.  I am forever grateful to him for the husband he was to you, my best friend, Loretta and the loving, patient father he was to you, sweet Missa. Unfortunately I couldn't be at my uncle's service but this is what I wanted to say. Rock in Peace Steve

I wanna start with an early memory I have with Uncle Steve and my father. Those who knew Steve even a tiny bit know about his musical affinity and his handiwork with a guitar. He used to have this really beautiful cherry red Gibson SG that I just adored and I remember that he used to keep it in his upstairs living room that the cousins and kids would all go relax in whenever we were at Steve and Loretta's for a big get-together. I remember being there one day with my dad and I can't remember why we were there but we eventually went up to that kids room with my uncle Steve and he taught me how to play a song that truthfully I can't remember the name of or how to play still. But I remember just getting to have that one special memory that just the three of us got to share. It's hard to believe that we won't be able to hear him pluck out a song or hum a melody or riff to the most popular song an artist sings just at the drop of that artists name. It's hard to believe that we won't get to hear his laugh or see his big goofy grin whenever he or somebody else just did something funny. It's hard to believe that I won't get to see him at my wedding or at either of my college graduations. It's all just so very hard to believe. But we have to know that Steve wouldn't want us to remember him how he was at the end, but throughout the rest of his life. I hope that Loretta and Melissa both know how much he meant to us and how much they mean to us and that we will always be here for both of them no matter what. I don't know what I believe but I know that if Steve is out there, I want him to know that I love him and miss him and will never forget him. I have one last thing I want to say before I go if it's okay with everybody but it's a bible verse that is very dear to our family; those who hope in the lord will renew their faith. They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not be faint. God bless you Steve and hasta luego.

Steve was a loving and humble man. Obviously an awesome uncle because my kids miss him deeply. AbbY learned to play guitar because she wanted to "be cool like uncle Steve". They even had their own special hand shake. He loved playing tennis with his brother Paul . The kids remember Halloween, the fireworks he got for 4th of July, easters and other relaxing celebrations at Steve and Loretta's home. We will miss him greatly and are here for you Loretta and Melissa. We have gained another guardian angel.

Farewell to my TJHS 'Buddy'. I'm just sorry that I lost track of you after I joined the USAF in 1970. You always had a great smile and a great sense of humor. I can't believe that we didn't cross paths in Houston where I lived as well for 30 years when I worked for HL&P. From your Photo Gallery, I can see that God has Blessed you all of these years, and what a wonderful looking and loving family that you have. I say have because you are still part of it, plus your larger family from JEFF, and Church. I often thought of you through out the years, I guess because you have such a 'magnetic personality' that came with your great smile. Knowing personal loss, I can only say to you family that our Good Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is now able to smile back to him in person, and until that day when we hear the trumpet blow, just know that Steve has joined the 'Great Cloud of Witnesses that have gone on before us', and he will never be far from your hearts.

Thoughts and prayers to the Acosta family.  I have worked with AISD for over 12 yrs and would pick up print jobs from the data services dept.  Steve would always have something funny to say.   He will be missed.

My condolences to all the family. Frank was intelligent, kind, and had a quiet sense of humor in high school--  TJHS class of 1969. God bless you all.

REST IN PEACE STEVIE

I knew Steve in High School and he was one of the nicest guys that I knew. He was different than most teenagers in High School in that he was such a "real" person. He seemed to be himself all the time I was around him, and wasn't always showing off and playing some kind of role like most kids do at that age. I haven't seen him in years but I could have predicted that he would become a family man, hard worker and great citizen. I've read comments about him being quiet, but I kind of remember him of just being a very humble person. The world needs people, and men like Steve! I know that I will see him in Heaven. My prayers go out for his family and many, many friends!

Steve was a friend of mine, he was always good to me and watched over me. We grew up at the NW YMCA in SanAntonio, his brother Bubba and I were closer in age but we alll played baseball together. Both of us came from big families and all knew each other. I will always remember Steve for his kindness, quiet guy with a great heart. RIP my friend !!! My prayers are with your family, Gods grace be with them like you were with me.

I have known Steve for many years he was not only my client, but a good friend that I considered family. I remember Steve as always quiet and when I did see him maybe twice a year at the salon he was always  one to let me know how much hair to cut off. Loretta would sit behind us and let me know how much I should really cut off, Steve always liked his long hair.  I also remember Steve being there for my daughters quinceanera, my other daughter's wedding, my mother's funeral, my son's wedding, so by all means he was part of our family. Loretta and Melissa are very lucky to have had him in their lives, as am I. I will always remember him standing with his hands in his pockets and smiling I am saddened by his passing but will always have fond memories and I know that he is finally where we all long to be at the right hand of our father. I was saddened to hear of Steve's passing. I knew him for many years at AISD and his presence always made our visits to the scanning office a little more fun. He was a quiet but very kind man and I know he will be missed very much.
