Stephen Herbert Palmer passed away in his home in Austin, Texas, Sunday, January 26, 2025. He was 45 years of age, born in Seguin, Texas, August 24, 1979, the son of Herbert and Kathleen Palmer who currently live in Austin; and husband of Amanda Land Palmer, whom he married on July 4, 2021, in a joyous celebration with friends and family.
Steve graduated from Lake Highlands High School in Dallas, Texas in 1997. He earned a BS Accounting degree from Stephen F. Austin University (SFA) in Nacogdoches, Texas; an MBA from Parker University in Dallas; and his certification as a Fraud Examiner. While he was at SFA he became an active member of Brothers Under Christ fraternity.
He developed his career in several settings as a Tax Auditor and Tax Analysist, primarily with the Texas Comptroller’s office, Beck Group of Dallas, and Software One, where he was employed at the time of his death.
Steve expected excellence from himself and he worked to bring the best out of others. He was a person of high character for which he earned respect and trust from those with whom he worked. Co-workers admired him and developed lasting friendships with him.
Steve’s baking, from scratch, was an art that could only be described as epic. It brought him pleasure to share his creations with others. He also embraced his German heritage. He could be seen at many Oktoberfest wearing lederhosen. Promoting his Dallas Cowboys team was a passion. He had season tickets to the Cowboy games, which he faithfully attended. He enjoyed sharing his seats with others. On the weekends, also, you might also find him riding his bike or checking out a brewery and sampling their craft beer.
He loved his dogs, Apollo and Viago, and earlier, Xena, as though they were his children.
The love of his life was his beloved, Amanda. They became one not only in their love for one another but also in their playfulness, humor, love of camping, and playing table games with friends and family.
Steve was big hearted toward strangers and loved ones. He had a unique, unreserved, full-bodied laugh that was recognized by all who knew him.
The life lessons he leaves with us is to never give up. Be hopeful and have fun along the way. Laugh. Be a friend.
Steve was baptized October 21, 1979 in LaVernia, Texas. He continued to be a part of the church, confirmed his faith at Christ Lutheran, Brenham, Texas, and he continued to grow in his faith throughout his life.
