Stella Engelke

Stella Engelke was born June 30, 1911. She was the daughter of Emil and Emilia Grobowsky of Niederwald, Texas. She was the second oldest of five children. She went to school through the 11th grade, and then worked in her father's hardware store. In 1930 she met Gus Engelke from Seguin and was married to him three years later. They eventually settled in Niederwald and, with her father's help, purchased 100 acres of land where they started a farm. Her life centered on her family. She raised two daughters and helped her husband on the farm where they lived for 43 years.

In 1975 Gus began having health problems, so they decided to sell their land and move to South Austin. Stella and Gus became active members of Bethany Lutheran Church. After Gus' passing in 1982, her days were filled with gardening, china painting and baking for her family and friends. Stella was a devoted mother & grandmother.

In 2001, at the age of 90, Stella sold her home. She then moved to Engelwood Retirement Estates, where she lived for five years. She later moved to Stonebridge Healthcare Center.

She is survived by daughters, Barbara Reinhardt and husband Butch, Carole Wright, and husband Gil. Four grandchildren, Kenneth Poehl and wife Ann, Cindy Nehring and husband Alan, Debi Miller and husband J, Scott Wright and wife Gena. Eight great grandchildren, Cheryl Nehring, Ryan Nehring, Amy Stanaland and husband Clayton, Heather Poehl, Ashley Miller, Logan Miller, Brady Wright and Lauren Wright. And two great-great grand children Abigail and Avery Stanaland. She was proceeded in death by her parents Emil and Emilia Grobowsky, her husband Gus Engelke, four brothers Hilmar Grobowsky, Alvin Grobowsky, William Grobowsky, and Emil Grobowsky Junior. And one grandson Christopher Wright.

Visitation will be at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home at 2620 S. Congress Ave., Austin, TX. 78704, Friday, May 11, 2012 from 6pm-8pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 12, 2012, 10am at Redeeming Grace Lutheran Church in Manchaca. (1010 W FM 1626, Austin, TX 78748) with Pastor Steven Fick and Pastor Walter Harms officiating. Graveside services will be held immediately following at Forest Oaks Memorial Park, 6300 W. William Cannon Dr., Austin, TX. 78749. Pallbearers are Kenneth Poehl, Scott Wright, Alan Nehring, Ryan Nehring, J Miller and Clayton Stanaland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Redeeming Grace Lutheran Church (1010 W. FM 1626, Austin, TX 78748.)
