Born on May 19, 1949, in El Paso, Texas, to Thomas and Josephine (Ware) Moore, Shirley spent her childhood in El Paso and San Antonio, Texas. She later moved to Kerrville, Texas, where she attended Doyle High School and graduated from Tivy High School in 1967.
After high school, Shirley pursued business school in San Antonio and worked as a data entry operator and bookstore clerk, where she developed her passion for reading.
On December 20, 1969, Shirley married her childhood sweetheart, James “Peter” Pollard and for the next 20 years, she lovingly supported her husband and their two daughters as they traveled the world during James’s service in the U.S. Army.
Shirley had a passion for reading, sewing, puzzles, coloring books, flower arrangements and her favorite TV shows.
On January 17, 1996, she accepted Christ Jesus as her Lord and Savior and became a devoted member of Zion Rest Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served. She also regularly attended Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) classes for several years. At Zion Rest, Shirley served as a deaconess, special programs coordinator, and vice president of the Women’s Ministry. Before her health declined, she was an active member of the Marriage Support Ministry, Women’s Prayer Group, Titus II Book Club, Women’s Chorus, Decorating Committee, and the Fellowship Hall Team. She also regularly attended prayer meetings, Bible study classes, and Sunday school.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Josephine Moore; her siblings, Ardel Moore and Julius Walker Jr.; and her nephew, Alexander Thomas.
She is survived by her loving husband, James (Peter) Pollard of Austin, Texas; daughters, Charise Pollard and Crystal Gordon (Gary), both of Austin; sisters, Collen Campbell (John) and Virtis Walker, both of San Antonio; nephew, Marcel Moore Sr. of San Antonio; niece, Dominique Squires (Daniel) of Derbyshire, England; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and cherished friends. She is also survived by her sisters-in-Christ at Zion Rest Missionary Baptist Church and her beloved Doyle Exes’ family of Kerrville, Texas.
Shirley will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, and faithful servant of her Lord Jesus Christ.

A visitation for Shirley will be held Thursday, April 17, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Zion Rest Baptist Church, 3326 Paisano Trail, Austin, TX 78745. A celebration of life will occur Thursday, April 17, 2025 at 11:00 AM, 3326 Paisano Trail, Austin, TX 78745. A graveside service will occur Monday, April 21, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
