Sherry Fondren Urban

Sherry F. Urban of Round Rock, TX, passed away on March 20, 2018 at the age of 71. She was born on November 6, 1946 in Wichita Falls, TX. Sherry lived all over the world but spent her childhood in her beloved Venezuela where she embraced the Spanish language. Around middle school age, she entered boarding school at Academy of Mary Immaculate in Wichita Falls. Her final high school years were with her family in Nocona, TX, where she graduated from Nocona High School.

Sherry then attended Midwestern State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Art. During college, she met a handsome Air Force member, Glenn L Urban. They were married in 1967 in Nocona, Texas.

After many years as a stay-at-home mom, Sherry worked as a merchandiser for Kimberly Clark and later as an English as a Second Language teacher for many years, primarily at Grisham Middle School in the RRISD.

Sherry loved to draw, paint and all art things from the beginning. Over the years she did painting, quilling, cross stitch, sewing, stained glass, clay, bead work, crafting and decorating. She excelled at any creative activity. Sherry enjoyed many years of playing tennis in Old Hickory, TN, and then racquetball, both with friends and in tournaments, in Jonesboro, AR. She was a volunteer at St. Bernard’s Hospital in Jonesboro, AR.

Sherry also loved travel and experiencing the beauty and art of so many countries. She was happy to chaperone middle school trips to far around countries or for local hikes. She loved her students.

She was preceded in death by her parents, B. F. “Poncho” and Norma (Tipton) Fondren.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn L Urban and daughter, Angela (Trey) Oberpriller and son, Andrew (Leanne) Urban. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jake and Anna Thompson, Kyle Urban, Danielle and Samantha Oberpriller and brother, David Fondren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
