She was a devout Christian, a dedicated teacher, and a genuinely sweet soul. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Bunky Treece of Odessa, and is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Donald R. Whitlock of Austin, son Robert Whitlock of Conroe, daughter Joy Whitlock of Austin, two grandchildren, Lori Whitlock and Danielle Camp of Austin, and brother, Gerald Treece of Houston.
Sherrie was born March 28, 1943, in Odessa, Texas and graduated from Permian High School in 1961 as the class salutatorian. She was a proud graduate of Abilene Christian University which she attended on a full academic scholarship. Because of Don, she also became an enthusiastic booster of the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Sherrie had a servant’s heart. She truly loved her many cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and other family members. She was also very proud of all the students she taught both in Lubbock and Grapevine.
Sharon and Don loved each other, and we especially pray for Don to be able to endure this unreal heartache. Don’s work with the IRS led them to live in various locations, but their favorite duty station was in London, England where Sherrie’s ashes will be spread.
There are no words to express the sorrow felt by those who loved her. But Sherrie would not want this sorrow to overwhelm us – she would remind us that she is now safe in the arms of the Lord. As her brother growing up with her in Odessa, Sherrie would often remind (preach to) me of her favorite Bible verses. One of these was Romans 8: 37-38 “For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities...nor things present, nor things to come...shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus, our Lord.”
This would be her message to us now.
We love you, Sharon, and we look forward to the day when we shall all be together again.
Goodbye for now,
Your loving family
