Sharon Patricia Huegele, nee Feuerbacher, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 9th. She passed away peacefully, at the age of 80, with the love of her life, Ernest Huegele, by her side. Born on Jan. 14, 1941 at the old Seton Infirmary in Austin, Texas, she was a 7th generation Texan and a 3rd generation Austinite. She was also a descendant of the first 200 German immigrants to travel by ship to Indianola, TX and settle in Fredericksburg, TX.
Sharon graduated from McCallum H.S class of ’59, in Austin. During High School, she was the editor of the Shield Newspaper and a member of the Blue Brigade. Sharon was such a great writer and editor-it was helpful for her daughters when they were writing school essays.
Sharon was baptized at St. Martin Lutheran Church in 1953 and confirmed in 1955. It was at a youth event at St. Martin’s where she caught Ernest’s eye when she was playing volleyball. A conversation later discovered that they had both attended Texas Lutheran College. Their first date was the Texas Tech v UT game in 1960. Soon, they were engaged, and were the second couple to be married at the new St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, on April 29, 1961.
Sharon worked at the Driscoll Hotel for her grandmother as cashier, then attended Texas Lutheran College and The University of Texas. After getting married, Sharon worked at UT in the Registrar’s Office and then at the Texas Dept. of Health. When her second daughter was born she stayed at home to care for her family full time. In 1967, Ernest accepted a civil service job at Kelly AFB.Their family was complete when two more daughters were born in San Antonio. Sharon enrolled her daughters in dance lessons and drove them downtown every week in San Antonio. She made sure they made all of their performances all over the state. As the girls grew, she and Ernest emphasized the importance of college. In 1978, Sharon returned to work at The University of Texas Health Science Center to make sure each one of their daughters received degrees. She was her daughter’s biggest advocate.
Sharon was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Bible study group, Agape, The Order of the Sons of Hermann, Red Hats, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas-Alamo Chapter, and loved to play bridge. Traveling was one of Sharon’s greatest pleasures; she and Ernest enjoyed over 25 cruises all over the world. Sometimes, the entire family joined them.
She was preceded in death by grandparents Willie and Clara Dittmar Feuerbacher, Mary Behr Spanos, and Michael Behr, and parents Marie and Chester Feuerbacher.
She is survived by her daughters and their spouses: Cara & Steve Mierl, Kimbra & Craig Culpepper, Kristen & Reid Baker, and Clarissa Carpenter. Nine grandchildren also survive: Devin and Kayla Culpepper, Hayden and Tanner Mierl, Garrett and Kaleigh Carpenter, and Zachary, Julia and Cameron Baker. Sharon is also survived by her sister Diane Feuerbacher Bennett and many nieces and nephews, including her Goddaughters, Sharon Michelle Davis and Melissa Alsworth.
