Sarah Kathryn Malone Turner

Sarah Kathryn Malone Turner, was born in Gainesville, TX on August 17, 1937 as the only child to Jesse Bennett Malone and Helen Louise Steck Williams. She passed away on July 14, 2014 in Austin, TX. She is preceded in death by her son, Miles Bennett Turner and her parents.

A longtime resident of Austin, Sarah was an extremely bright and kind person with many friends. Sarah attended McCallum High School where she was honored with the title of "most beautiful girl" during her senior year. Her beauty pageant days continued at the University of Texas. She was among four Austin coeds in a total of 25 "most beautiful girls" at UT and she was also a finalist in the campus search for the "most beautiful freshman". Sarah was not only beautiful physically but spiritually as well.

Sarah's life was a combination of exquisite beauty, grace and lively energy. Sarah married her high school sweetheart, William Gene Turner, and together they raised three boys, Marc, Miles and Michael. As a mother, she enjoyed outdoor activities, sports and above all else she was extremely devoted to her family. As the daughter of an art educator, Sarah developed her own passion for painting, photography and sculpting. She became an accomplished artist in her own right and some of her work was nationally recognized.

Many remember her enjoyment of classic movies, art history and above all else spending time with family. Sarah loved telling stories of past events, either personal or historical and her ability to recall every detail was impeccable. She was an extremely intelligent woman who enjoyed challenging herself with crossword puzzles and shows like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.

She told of meeting President Johnson at Central Christian Church with her sons. With apprehension, she realized that the President's seat was directly in front of her family. It was too late to move, so she firmly reminded her boys to behave in front of the President. She laughingly remembered that she held her breath during the entire service.

Later in life, she continued her love of family by enjoying time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a loving daughter, mother, wife, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be missed by many friends and family members.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Marc and Carol Turner of Round Rock, TX and Michael and Dawn Turner of Austin, TX. She is also survived by her grandsons Mav Turner, Matthew Turner and Brady Turner, all of Austin, TX; granddaughter-in-law Katie Turner, granddaughter and grandson-in-law Sarah Turner Bickel and Oliver Bickel, and great-granddaughters Kaitlyn Bickel and Daphne Turner.

A celebration of life will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Laguna Gloria, 3809 West 35th Street, Austin, TX.
