SARA FILES CURRIE Sara Files Currie died in Austin on October 23, 2004, after an extended illness. Born September 27, 1920, in Itasca, Texas, daughter of Sidney J. Files and Janie Coffin Files, she began at Texas State College for Women and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Texas, receiving her B.S. and M.S. in Home Economics in 1941 and 1942, and her M.A. in Psychology in 1972. She is preceded in death by her husband, Stuart Dickson Currie, Professor of New Testament Languages and Exegesis at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary; her parents; and her brothers Sidney J. Files, Jr. and John T. Files. She is survived by her sisters, Janice Files Conner of Dobbs Ferry, New York, Joyce Files Fox of Irvington, New York, and Eleanor Files Currie of Oak Cliff, Texas; her many and much-loved nieces, nephews and other relations; and her children, their spouses and her grandchildren, including Helen Currie Foster and Dr. Lawrence W. Foster of Austin; Grace Currie Bradshaw and William E. Bradshaw of Big Stone Gap, Virginia; Kenneth Files Currie and Pamela Griffith Currie of Houston; and Dr. Mark Stuart Currie and Carrie Susan Sensenbaugh Currie of Roanoke, Virginia; and Savannah Rose Blackwell, Sydney and Drew Foster, Sara and Rachel Bradshaw, Karen, Ellen and Alison Currie, and Luke, Jake and Morgan Currie. Sara Currie served the Austin Independent School District as a school psychologist, working with students, their teachers and parents, for over 20 years. She served on the boards of the Presbyterian Childrens Homes, the Samaritan Counseling Center, and the YMCA of Austin. She served on the session at University Presbyterian Church, was a long-time supporter of the YMCA of the Rockies, and regularly volunteered at the Capital Area Food Bank. She belonged to the Texas Psychological Association and enjoyed UTs LAMP Program, as well as the Austin Symphony and Austin Lyric Opera. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any contributions be made to Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, 100 East 27th Street, Austin TX 78705; the Presbyterian Childrens Homes & Services, 4407 Bee Caves Rd., Austin, TX 78746; or the Campus Ministry Program, University Presbyterian Church, 2203 San Antonio, Austin, TX 78705. The memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 29, at University Presbyterian Church, 2203 San Antonio, Austin, with a reception following. The family will also receive friends on Thursday, October 28, from 6-8 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home.
