Sandra was born in Houston, TX on October 21, 1947, to Livingston and Maudelle Evetts. She was one of four siblings along with Sam, Lauran, and Brad. She began her faith journey as a child at Lindale Church of Christ in Houston, TX, and remained a faithful Christian her entire life, volunteering in various ministries and making many cherished friends through the years.
Sandra was an accomplished seamstress, crochet and quilt artist. She created beautiful quilts, afghans and other creative quilted gifts for her family and friends and loved to see them enjoyed. She was an avid reader and was often reading multiple books at once and enjoyed discussing them with friends and book clubs.
Sandra was a dedicated elementary school educator for many years in Groesbeck ISD and in Round Rock ISD at Purple Sage Elementary and Forest North Elementary, teaching nearly every grade at some point in her career. She was always looking for new tools and strategies to teach her students and especially enjoyed teaching reading and writing. Her love of children’s literature continued after her retirement in 2004 through her work with Women’s Storybook Project of Texas, a program that connects children with their incarcerated mothers by sharing the joy of children’s literature.
Sandra is survived by her loving husband, Glenn. She was a devoted mother to daughters, Katie McCormick and husband Marlon of Austin, TX, Sarah Duprée and husband Patrick of Dallas, TX, and son, Earl Harrison and wife Mary of Harrah, OK. She was called Bodie by her adoring grandchildren Lily McCormick, Garrick Duprée, Masina Duprée, Hanah Duprée, Lola Duprée, Ashley Mendiaz, Carman Osborne, Bailey Lance, and Jaydan Harrison. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Viewing and family visitation will be held Monday, November 20, 2023, 5:00 PM- 7:00PM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX. A funeral service will be held the next day, Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Women's Storybook Project of Texas or any organization that supports women starting a new life.
