Sandra Allen Dent, 67, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, and aunt of Austin, TX passed away peacefully the morning of May 12, 2020 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. At the time of her passing, Darnell Dent (husband), Kathie D. Harrison and Cassandra M. Dent (daughters) were by her bedside. Sandra possessed many talents and strengths that she used with enormous grace throughout her life, but most noted were her accomplishments as a mother and grandmother.
Sandra was born on June 29, 1952 to William B. Allen and Ellen Adeline Page Allen in Roseland, Virginia. She was the fourth of ten children and attended Nelson Memorial High School and graduated from Nelson County High School in 1970. She went on to Norfolk State College where she graduated with a BA degree in Sociology in 1974. Later, she completed her graduate studies in Human Resources Management from Webster University with a Master of Arts degree. Following, she then enjoyed a very successful career in Banking and Human Resources working for various private sector companies.
Sandra met the love of her life, Darnell, while at Norfolk State when the two of them were freshman. Anyone who knew them and witnessed their relationship, knew they had a very special love. The best friends were married following graduation which lasted for almost 46 years, raised two wonderful daughters, and enjoyed spending time with their beloved grandchildren. Sandra was best known for her talents in the kitchen; she loved to cook for her family, and especially enjoyed a house filled with family for the holidays.
In recent years, they traveled to Israel and other points around the world, attended live sporting events, and attended church at Hill Country Bible Church, Austin, TX. Above all, she cherished every moment with her family and looked forward to travelling back to one of her favorite vacation spots in Hawaii.
Sandra is survived by her husband Darnell, her daughters Kathie (Jared) and Cassie (Jeff), her grandchildren Brandon and Kayla, her sisters Catherine, Barbara, Sharon, Susan, Cheryl, her brothers Jerry (Shirley), Robert (Beverly) and Steve, and many other family members.
Sandra will be greatly missed as her infectious laugh and warm spirit never ceased to fill a room. Her legacy will continue through her family, and those who received care and love by way of her acts of kindness.
We would like to thank Dr. Carsten Kampe, the nurses and staff at St. David’s South Austin Medical Center and Texas Oncology.
A memorial will be held sometime in the future. In lieu of flowers, please celebrate Sandra’s life by donating to the Gastric Cancer Foundation at https://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/sandra-dent/sandra
