Ruth was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina on August 10, 1938 to Ruth and John Hill, II.
As a child, she liked roller skating and playing dolls, but she especially loved riding horses with her brother, John Hill, III, on their family ranch outside of Austin. Her childhood dream was to someday become a mom. As a teenager, she loved cheerleading, playing piano, and tap dancing. She graduated from Travis High School and studied at Southwest Texas State University.
In 1962, she married R. H. Heidemeyer, Jr. They joined Abiding Love Lutheran Church in 1984. R.H. and Ruth were married for 54 years. Later in life, she said that of all her accomplishments, she was most proud of being married and of having four beautiful children.
Besides being a devoted wife and mother, she was a “second mom” to many children she cared for over the years. She was always willing to give her time and energy. Most people will remember Ruth for her kindness, generosity, and big heart. Her life reflected her love of God.
She loved cooking, bowling, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her sons, Ron (LaDonna), Richard (Susan), David (Connie), and daughter Christine (Matt). Her 9 grandchildren—Dana, Derek, Kalea, Justin, Alexis, Spencer, Megan, Chase, Audrey, and 2 great grandsons—Jackson and Wyatt, knew her as “MoMo.” She will be dearly missed.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Brookdale Spicewood Springs and Brookdale Hospice for their loving care and comfort in her last days.
A Celebration of Ruth’s Life will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, March 31, 2018 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Highum officiating.
For those desiring, gifts and memorials may be given in Ruth’s memory to Abiding Love Lutheran Church or the American Diabetes Foundation.
