Ruby Virginia Brown Teal passed away on January 16, 2011 in Austin, Texas. She was born on May 18, 1915 in Waco, Texas to the late Jennie Linam Brown and Arthur A. Brown. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. Ruby graduated with Honors from Baylor University in 1935 with a degree in Economics and Business Administration. She and her husband of 71 years, Edwin, were active members of South Main Baptist Church in Houston for 66 years, where she served on many committees and was a Sunday School leader. Ruby was very involved in her two daughter’s activities as they grew up, including being active with the PTA and being a Girl Scout Leader for both girls. Ruby enjoyed her life to the fullest, being in bridge clubs, sewing clubs, and garden clubs with her friends. She was very artistically talented and enjoyed sharing her painting and many crafts talents with her friends and family. She was active for years working at the Methodist Hospital Thrift Shop in Houston even into her 90's, and was a recipient of an award for 25 years of service. She and Edwin had fond memories of their great travel adventures within the United States and abroad and enjoyed talking about the new friends they always met. Survivors include her husband, Edwin; her daughter, Barbara Berry and husband Ed Berry of Bryan, Texas; her daughter, Marilyn Roberts and husband Kent Roberts of Austin, Texas; her grandchildren, Craig Berry and wife Elizabeth Berry of Cedar Park, Texas; Kyle Berry and wife Melissa Berry of Ennis, Texas; Kendall Berry and wife Melissa Berry of Houston, Texas; Kelly Roberts of New York City, New York; Chris Roberts of Austin, Texas; and six great-grandchildren. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family starting at one o’clock in the afternoon, Wednesday, the 19th of January 2011, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar in Austin, Texas. Funeral services will begin at two o’clock in the afternoon following the visitation.
