Ross Mathieu Correll, Jr., loving father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully at his home in Austin, Texas on November 23, 2011. He was born on November 18, 1920 in Bedford, Indiana. The family moved to Austin in the 1930's where he graduated from S.F. Austin High School. He served proudly in the United States Air Force in WW II as an air traffic controller, stationed in the Marshall Islands in the Asian-Pacific war and afterwards in the Air Force Reserve at Bergstrom A.F.B. in Austin, Texas as an air traffic control trainer. Ross began his career as a stone carver after the war and worked with many stone projects with his father and grandfather including the last supper on the Tidwell Bible building at Baylor University in Waco and the renowned Austin sculpture at Good Shepherd Church on Exposition.
He was the oldest of three children born to the late Ross M. Correll, Sr. and Mae Mathieu Correll. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Jo McDonald Correll, whom he was married to for 56 years, and his brother Jack Correll. He will be remembered by his brother Jerry Correll; his children Beverly Knowles, Michele Turnquist, and Richard Correll; nephew Kim Correll; his beloved grandchildren Kathryn Scarborough Bechtol, Traci Turnquist Wilson, Colton Turnquist, Jenna Knowles Myers and Ashton Correll. Ross loved listening to 40's music, laughing and being with his family and driving his cars - the faster the better!
Ross touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday December 23rd, at 11:00 a.m. at the Camp Mabry Chapel, 2200 W 35th St. in Austin, Texas.
