He was an incredible teacher, and what I will remember most was his transparent honesty. He would forever call out the word, "like" in class, and it is because of him, to this day, it is seared into my DNA to not use filler words that make you sound stupid and to make sure ALL punctuation is correct. He taught me that one can love the institution but that it cannot love you back. And most of all, I took his class after the Christmas break where I lost my own grandfather, and his warmth and honesty in those moments have never left me. He told me that you don't ever "get over" the people you lose. You just have to learn to live without them.  After graduation, I learned that we both lived in the same apartment complex, and the last time we spent time together was over a cold beer and a conversation where I got to share with him that a book project I was apart of had just been published. We talked about his family, life, art, and writing. His last lesson for me was to never give up... and I haven't. Few moments will compare to that.  I am so sorry to hear of your family's loss. I only had a handful of months where you all had a lifetime. Sending warmth, love, and light, and praying for joyful reunions, memories, and stories in Jesus's name.
